Nigeria is gaining popularity in the sports/game of table tennis, the country has been represented by many professional table tennis players both men and women and have made the country proud through their outstanding performances; some of the best Nigeria table tennis players include but is not limited to;

 

Quadri Aruna

Quadri Aruna

He is a professional table tennis player who was birthed on 9th of August, 1988 in Oyo State, Nigeria. He attended Oba Adeyemi High school, Oyo state, where he featured in so many table tennis competitions. He was ranked number 30 by the International Table Tennis Federation and was named Star player of the year in 2004. He was one of the teams that won bronze at the 2014 Commonwealth Games and he also featured in 2012 and 2016 Summer Olympics.

 

Bose Kaffo

Bose Kaffo

Is one of the most successful female table tennis players, she was born in the year 1972 on 14th of November in Surulere, Lagos. The silver medalist Bose who featured for five times in summer Olympics from 1992 to 2008 and was recorded to be the second Nigerian woman that has done that and has won at least fifteen medals which includes seven gold in singles and doubles table tennis games in All Africa Games from 1987 to 2007.

 

Monday Merotohun

Monday Merotohun

A table tennis player in Nigeria, born in Ado Odo, Ogun State of Nigeria. He is among the team that won the silver medal in the men’s double at 2007 All Africa Games in Algiers, Algeria. He also competed in both singles and doubles tournaments where he made his first appearance at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens.

 

Bode Abiodun

Bode Abiodun

Bode is one of the most successful table tennis players from Nigeria. He was birthed on 10th September 1980. He was one of the members of men’s team who participated in the 2016 Summer Olympics Games.

 

Offiong Edem

Offiong Edem

Is one of the successful female table tennis players in Nigeria and was born in the year 1986 on the 31st of December in Calabar. Offiong was one of the members of the female’s team who participated at the 2004 and 2002 Summer Olympics.

 

Adeyemo Fatai

Adeyemo Fatai

Is a professional former table tennis player in Nigeria, he has participated in so many competitions from the year 1985 to 1994 and has won several silver medals in singles, doubles and the team event in the Africa Table Tennis Championships.

 

Atanda Musa

Atanda Musa

Is one of the best and professional table tennis players in Nigeria and was birthed on the 3rd of February, 1960. He has represented Nigeria in both 1988 and 1992 Summer Olympics Games and has won several gold medals.

The gold medalist who featured at the 1982 and 1985 Commonwealth table tennis championships which were held in Brisbane, Queensland and Australia won the table tennis single’s event in 1982 and double’s gold medal in 1985.

 

Kazeem Nosiru

Kazeem Nosiru

He is also one of the successful table tennis players who was born on the 25th of November, 1974 in Lagos. He plays right-handed; he is one of the players that won a bronze medal in the men’s double at the 2007 All Africa Games in Algiers, Algeria.

He was ranked number 269 in the world by the International Table Tennis Federation in September 2012. He competed in the men’s doubles at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, where he made his first appearance. He belongs to Lascala Sports Club in Barcelona Spain and he was coached and trained by Obisanya Babatunde.

 

Cecilia Otu Offiong

Cecilia Otu Offiong

A Nigerian and professional female table tennis players born on the 13th of June, 1986 in Calabar, Cross River. She participated in the women doubles at the 2007 All Africa Games in Algier, Algeria and at 2011 All Africa Games in Maputa, Mozambique where she won two gold medals.

She plays right-handed and uses the shake-hand grip. She competed in both singles and doubles tournaments at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens where she made her first appearance. She belongs to Calabar Sports Club and was coached and trained by Obisanya Babatunde. Cecilia was ranked number 452 in the world by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF).

 

Olufunke Oshonaike

Olufunke Oshonaike

One of the professional female table tennis players from Nigeria, she was birthed on the 28th of October, 1975 in Lagos, Nigeria.

She attended community primary school Agunbiade, Shomolu, Lagos, where she won a competition for the school and in order to further her professional career she dropped out from school when she was in SSS 1.

She participated at the 2012 Summer Olympics and at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro and competed at the women’s single division.

 

Segun Toriola

Segun Toriola

Is one of the most successful Table Tennis players in Nigeria, he was birthed on 18th of September 1974 in Ilorin, Kwara State. The gold medalist who featured in four African Table tennis singles championships in 1998, 2002, 2004, 2006 and in doubles championships in the year 1992 and, 1994, he has also participated and in Commonwealth singles and the doubles championship and has made so many achievements.

He is one of the top table tennis players in Africa since the mid- 1990s and has been ranked as the best Nigeria table tennis player.

Some other table tennis players include Tosin Oribamise, Jamiu Azeez, Omotayo  Olajide, Faith Bazuaye, Tope Ogunsanya and more.
