Nigerian’s table tennis star Offiong Edem has been excluded from the Tokyo Olympics Women’s Single event.
Edem was defeated by the three-time American Champions Lily Zhang despite been defeated she remains the only Nigeria table tennis star with a win at the ongoing Tokyo Olympics.
For her official instagram handle, Edem admitted that Lily Zhang was too much to handle, but that notwithstanding she did her very best. Edem has competed for Nigeria at the 2004, 2012 and 2016 Summer Olympics.
In an interview where she talked about her Journey to hall of fame, she stated how she was not able to play the game outside and rather replicated it using her grandmother’s dinner table moving forward.
The contrary opinion from her family never stopped until she won the Women’s Single Title in the Lagos Star Cup Table Tennis Championships in 2000.
Following her activism the Nigeria Player founded Offiong Edem foundation in 2016 to promote integral development and quality of life among young people through table tennis.
The defeat brought her to the end of the game with just one victory to go home with though she is the latest Nigeria to crash out of the table tennis events, at 34 Edem’s Carrer is still at its Peak.
